GSR Energo Group and SOYUZ Energy Construction Corporation OJSC signed a contract for the construction of the 1st power unit of the CHP CCGT (Combined Combined Heat and Power Plant) GSR Energo in the Kolpinsky District of St. Petersburg. “ESK” SOYUZ “will carry out the construction of a thermal power plant on a turnkey basis.” Commissioning of the 1st power unit of the CCGT CHPP is scheduled for the 1st quarter of 2013.

The current capacity of the Kolpino CHPP, commissioned in the 1950s, is an old-style turbine with a capacity of 25 MW and thermal generation of 944 Gcal per hour of installed capacity. After the commissioning of the 1st block, the additional electric capacity of the new CHPP will be 110 MW, thermal capacity – 68 Gcal per hour.

The need to build a new power unit is due to the lack of generating capacity in the region, as well as the replacement of obsolete equipment with modern, highly economical equipment. The commissioning of the first unit will be the first step to ensure the necessary conditions for the development of the Kolpinsky industrial site – the largest machine-building zone in the Northwest.

“ESK” SOYUZ “was selected as a construction contractor based on the results of our tender. The competitive advantages of the company were assessed based on financial performance, staff qualifications, and experience in conducting similar projects. We made a decision in favor of ESC SOYUZ together with the state corporation Bank for Development and Foreign Economic Affairs (Vnesheconombank), with which we signed a loan agreement in October. “ESK” SOYUZ “has a reputation as a reliable partner in the energy construction market. With its help, we hope to strictly follow the construction schedule and launch the 1st unit of the CCGT CHPP on time,” said Victor Kotov, General Director of GSR Energo Management Company.

The project for the construction of a combined heat and power plant is included in the master plan for the development of St. Petersburg. The scale of the project allows GSR Energo to be classified as a strategic investor in St. Petersburg, which will certainly provide additional benefits in the construction and operation of the station.

JSC “ESK” SOYUZ “is part of an international holding uniting design, commercial, production and service organizations in Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan. The main activity of the Holding is the design and turnkey construction of energy facilities – thermal power plants, substations, high-voltage lines, switchgears and industrial facilities. The key competencies of the Holding companies include all types of design and engineering work, project management for the construction of power facilities (EPCM), construction of power facilities on a turnkey basis (EPC), production of electrical equipment (licensed by AREVA T&D), packaged supply of electrical and heat power equipment of leading Russian and foreign manufacturers.
